Welcome, and thank you for your interest in the College of Musical Arts at Bowling Green State University! All interested applicants must both audition for the College of Musical Arts Faculty and complete an application to the University. Details can be found here.
The College of Musical Arts at Bowling Green State University prepares music professionals for state and national leadership roles in teaching, research, and creativity in all of the musical arts. We aspire to be recognized nationally as a premier music learning community.
Since 1947, the College of Musical Arts has been an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music. In addition, the Department of Music Education is accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
Incoming students who wish to major in music (College of Musical Arts), minor in music (all other colleges at BGSU), be considered for a music talent award or enroll in private music lessons for credit are required to present an entrance audition with the College of Musical Arts faculty. Music scholarship audition deadline is Saturday, February 22, 2014.
Students will take a Music Theory Placement Exam at the time of their entrance audition. The exam is given to determine placement regarding the appropriate theory class for the student’s level of knowledge. It is not considered when evaluating the student for entrance to the College of Musical Arts as a music major or minor. The written music theory test will cover music fundamentals, including note identification, basic clef reading and notation, scale and interval construction/recognition, and musical terms. At Bowling Green State University, music scholarships are called Music Talent Awards. Music Talent Awards are fee waivers awarded in varying amounts to be applied towards tuition and/or on-campus housing and meals. Approximately 40 percent of the students approved in the College of Musical Arts will receive a Music Talent Award. More information can be found here.
