Who are we?
Campbellsville University is a comprehensive, Christian institution dedicated to academic excellence solidly grounded in the liberal arts that fosters personal growth, integrity, and professional preparation within a caring atmosphere.
Our department’s mission is to develop highly-skilled theatre artists of Christ-like character who will make a positive difference in our world. We endeavor to create supportive and creative learning environments where students are challenged to achieve personal excellence and encouraged to collaborate with respect. Our programs provide students with the instruction and experience necessary for the successful pursuit of professional theatre careers.
The Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Musical Theatre provides this experience and knowledge by integrating singing, acting, movement, dance, and fundamental music theory components with practical performance experience. Our aim is to admit applicants of character who show strong potential as professional artists and educators.
How do I apply?
Admission into the BFA Musical Theatre program is by audition after application to the university. An initial audition prescreening is completed via video submission through the Acceptd website. Once all of your prescreen materials have been submitted, they will be reviewed by our faculty. You will then be contacted if selected to schedule a live, in-person audition.
2025 Admission Audition Dates:
March 1, 2025 (Application deadline for priority: February 15th)
April 26, 2025 (Application deadline: April 22nd)
*Applications received after in-person auditions will be reviewed based on availability.
Your musical theatre admission audition will also serve as your audition for departmental scholarship consideration.
Is there financial aid available?
Yes! Campbellsville University has one of the nation’s highest percentages of students receiving aid and one of the lowest percentages of students with post-graduation debt. In addition to generous academic aid, students may apply for competitive scholarships that include a full-tuition waiver and room and board. There are also multiple departmental awards and grants. And unlike many colleges and universities, most of our awards "stack" to provide the most possible aid to our students.
What kind of performance opportunities will I have?
A typical CU season consists of ten productions including a large musical, a Christmas production, a contemporary piece, a dance concert, youth camps, and an outdoor Shakespeare play. Our current 2024-2025 season includes: Lucky Stiff, Catch Me If You Can (Radio Play), Every Christmas Story Ever Told (and then some), The Knights of the Sales Office (new play), The Murder of Roger Ackroyd (dance adaptation), A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Magic Treehouse: Knights at Dawn, Anastasia (Youth Edition), and Puffs:The Play.
Is there a fee to apply?
There is a $35 application fee to submit your Acceptd application. Fee waivers are available for students with economic need. Please read this guide for the documentation required to receive a fee waiver and then submit your fee waiver request at this link.
