Who are we?
Campbellsville University is a comprehensive, Christian institution dedicated to academic excellence. Grounded in the liberal arts we aim to foster personal growth, integrity, and professional preparation in a caring atmosphere.

Our department’s mission is to develop highly-skilled theatre artists of Christ-like character who will make a positive difference in our world. We endeavor to create supportive and creative learning environments where students are challenged to achieve personal excellence and encouraged to collaborate with respect. Our programs provide students with the instruction and experience necessary for the successful pursuit of professional theatre careers.

The Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Musical Theatre provides this experience and knowledge by integrating singing, acting, movement, dance, and fundamental music theory components with practical performance experience. Our aim is to admit applicants of character who show strong potential as professional artists and educators. 


How do I apply?
Admission into the BFA Musical Theatre program is by audition only. To be considered for an audition:
1. Apply to the Campbellsville University.
2. Complete and submit your pre-screening materials via Acceptd.
3. Submit your FAFSA information to Campbellsville University. (Your musical theatre admission audition will also serve as your audition for departmental scholarship consideration!)
4. After your prescreen materials are submitted, they will be reviewed by our faculty. If selected we will email you to schedule an in-person audition. Reply to the email received to schedule your in person audition. 

Upcoming In-Person Audition Dates:
Priority Fall Audition – October 4
CU Application and Acceptd Prescreen Materials must be submitted by September 30th. Notification regarding admission into the BFA program, and the awarding of scholarships from the Priority Fall Audition will be send no later than November 1. Admission and Awards must be accepted by November 15 or they may be rescinded. FAFSA information must be received promptly by CU (school code 001959) so that awards can be approved by the Office of Financial Aid. Awards will be rescinded if your FAFSA information is not received by February 15. 

Spring Audition #1 – February 21
CU Application and Acceptd Prescreen Materials must be submitted by February 15th. Notification regarding admission into the BFA program, and the awarding of scholarships from the Priority Fall Audition will be send no later than April 15. Admission and Awards must be accepted by April 30 or they may be rescinded. FAFSA information must be received by CU (school code 001959) no later than March 15 so that awards can be approved by the Office of Financial Aid. 

Spring Audition #2 – early April, date coming soon

Is there financial aid available?
Yes! Campbellsville University has one of the nation’s highest percentages of students receiving aid and one of the lowest percentages of students with post-graduation debt. In addition to generous academic aid, students may apply for competitive scholarships that include a full-tuition waiver and room and board. There are also multiple departmental awards and grants. And unlike many colleges and universities, most of our awards "stack" to provide the most possible aid to our students. 


What kind of performance opportunities will I have?
A typical CU season consists of ten productions including a musicals, plays, a Christmas production, a dance concert, youth camps, and an outdoor Shakespeare play. Our current 2025-2026 season includes: Ordinary Days, War of the Worlds (Radio Play), [TBD Christmas Production], Ada and the Engine, Fairytales and Fables (dance concert), Romeo and Juliet, Seussical Kids, The Lightening Thief (Youth Edition), and Clue: OnStage.  


Is there a fee to apply?
There is a $35 application fee to submit your Acceptd application. Fee waivers are available for students with economic need. Please read this guide for the documentation required to receive a fee waiver and then submit your fee waiver request at this link.


What other theatre degree programs does Campbellsville University offer?
In addition to the BFA in Musical Theatre, we offer a BA and BS in Theatre Performance and in Technical Theatre. We also offer a Minor in Theatre and in Dance. 

With the exception of the BFA Musical Theatre program, students are not required to audition to declare a theatre major. If you are interested in majoring in theatre in the BA or BS degree programs, more information can be found here.
