College of Charleston Theatre & Dance Talent Awards

Welcome to the Department of Theatre & Dance, located in the beautiful and historic city of Charleston, SC.  Our department, housed within the School of the Arts at the College of Charleston, offers two undergraduate majors: a BA in Theatre and a BA in Dance, both with multiple concentration areas to provide exceptional training for a variety of career paths.

As part of a historic institution built upon a liberal arts foundation, our department provides a rich curriculum allowing you to focus on your passion while making connections across the many courses you will take at the College. Many of our students choose to double major in a variety of disciplines, and our curriculum allows for maximal opportunities to pursue different areas of interest. We guide you in developing your sense of self and place in the world while offering rigorous training, close mentorship, and a balance between theoretical and realized production work.

The BA in Theatre offers concentrations in Performance, Costume Design & Technology, Scenic and Lighting Design & Technology, Theatre Studies, and Theatre for Young Audiences. In addition, we provide focused training for students with interests in areas such as Stage Management, Technical Direction, Directing, Playwriting, Screenwriting, and more.

The BA in Dance offers two different concentrations: Dance Studies and Performance & Choreography. The curriculum has an equal focus on technique and theory combined with a variety of electives that allow you to pursue your particular interests.

Beginning in the 2023-2024 academic year, we began offering a Musical Theatre Certificate program to complement Theatre and Dance undergraduate programs. The Musical Theatre Certificate provides supplemental music and dance coursework for theatre majors and supplemental theatre and music coursework for dance majors.

Our department’s faculty are truly dedicated to providing you with high impact learning experiences that push you to think critically and pursue excellence in all areas. We provide small class sizes and individual attention. There are multiple performance/production opportunities beginning in your first semester at the College. Study abroad, independent study, and internship opportunities are also available in theatre and dance.

They study with passionate and dedicated faculty members in small classroom settings and through the course of creating our varied production seasons.
