The Civic Music Association of Des Moines Announces the CMA Young Soloist Competition

The scholarship competition is open to Iowa high school seniors attending any college or university in the fall of 2022 to pursue a degree in Music Performance or Music Education.

Applicants must perform a solo with piano accompaniment (if required) on one of the following instruments: Voice, Piano, Violin, Viola, Cello, String Bass, Flute, Clarinet, Oboe, Bassoon, Saxophone, Trumpet, Euphonium, Trombone, Tuba, Percussion.

First-round application materials, including recording of solo with accompanist, must be uploaded by Tuesday, March 15, 2022, 5:00 PM CST.

Live
accompaniments are required for the first-round video competition.
A $30 application fee will be paid directly to Acceptd (financial assistance available upon request).

Four finalists and one alternate announced no later than April 1, 2022.

Four finalists will compete in an in-person LIVE performance in Des Moines on May 1, 2022.

Live accompaniments are required for the final round. If finalists’ regular accompanist is unavailable in Des Moines, a list of local accompanists will be provided, with financial assistance available upon request. Results of the final competition will be announced approximately 30 minutes following the final performer.
