Welcome to the CSUN Music Department!

We are so pleased that you have chosen CSUN for your college audition. The application process is an easy one and what follows is some general information to get you started. Please read everything below before starting your music audition application.

You must have already completed your application to CSUN at CSUN Apply and received your CSUN ID#.
 
Our "Start an Application" process on the left panel of this page will allow you to select your specific option area and your audition instrument. Be sure to look at all the options carefully before making your selection. We've also listed the options below for you. After selecting your option area and instrument you will move on to filling in your basic contact information. 

In preparation for starting the application, have your CSUN student ID number ready. The drop-down menus will have you select your major area and your audition instrument. After choosing one of the following areas you will select your program. The program will show the option area plus the instrument you plan to audition on. Here are our option areas:

Here is some important information to help you in planning ahead:

In-person auditions will be held live on campus on February 15, February 22 and March 1, 2025.
We would love to hear you live but also offer the opportunity for you to submit a video audition submission, and all video uploads and any supporting documents are due no later than February 15th, 2025. 

JAZZ PERFORMANCE STUDENTS: your pre-screening video is due by JANUARY 15th 2025. Jazz Performance BM and MM students who pass the pre-screen video submission round will be notified by January 31st and be asked to schedule a live audition on one of our on-campus audition dates, in order to play in combos: February 15, February 22 and March 1, 2025. Jazz BA students (ie: such as for Music Education or Music Industry Studies), who pass the pre-screen will be advised of the next step in their application.

The regular deadline for freshman and transfer students is JANUARY 31st.

A few important notes:

The CSUN Music Department does NOT offer a Minor in Music.

Students who hold a Bachelor's degree cannot apply for a second Bachelor's degree at CSUN.

Students who already hold a master's degree in music will NOT be able to receive a second masters from CSUN at this time.
