International Double Reed Society

Welcome! To get started on your IDRS competition application:

1. Make sure you are an IDRS member. Become an IDRS member here.
2. Choose a competition from the drop-down menu on the left.
3. Please review all repertoire guidelines (links below) and prepare to upload video recordings (no audio recordings will be accepted). 

Application deadline is March 15, 2024 for both the Fernand Gillet-Hugo Fox International Competition for Oboe and the Norma Hooks Young Artist International Competition for Bassoon. Announcement of the finalists for both competitions will be made May 5, 2024.

The IDRS sponsors two international competitions for oboe and bassoon, which Final Rounds take place each year during its annual conference. The Fernand Gillet-Hugo Fox International Competition is for bassoonists and oboists who have not reached their 31st birthday by the date of the final round of the competition. Norma Hooks Young Artist Competition is for those who have not reached their 22nd birthday by the date of the final round of the competition. Both competitions alternate each year between oboe and bassoon.
