2025 Thomas F. Hulbert International Piano Competition

(formerly the William Knabe International Piano Competition)
Please note the following:

Special award for best performance of a composition by Thomas F. Hulbert.  Visit www.hulbertinstitute.org for more information and to purchase one of his piano compositions online.  One $250 award will be given.

Carnegie Hall Award. The jury will choose one or more finalists to be awarded with an opportunity to perform at Carnegie Hall.

This Year: In-Person Competition for Young Professionals, ages 18-32. In addition to other prizes, one winner in this category will be awarded our $10,000 grand prize.

No Amateur Adult Division in 2025 - Amateur Adult will Take Place in 2026 (18+). Next year: any adult pianist who is not a current music major and who is not earning a living as a musician can qualify.  A letter of reference verifying non-professional status is required.

2025 Competition Options:

1. Apply with a pre-recorded video, and then compete live in semi-final and final rounds at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (NEW: live round dates are now July 23-27, 2024). Ages 6-17 and 18-32.

2. Enter the video-only competition.  All applicants submit a pre-recorded video to compete in the preliminary round, and then select applicants are invited to compete in the semi-final and final rounds by pre-recorded video. Ages 6-17 and 18-32.

Solo and concerto divisions are available in both options.

All video applications will be reviewed and graded by our prestigious jury, and applicants may choose to apply for an evaluation and points only (non-competitive) or may choose to compete for a chance to compete in the semi-final and final rounds.
