APPLY to Missouri State to Find Your Forte in Music

We are excited about your interest in the Department of Music at Missouri State University, an All Steinway School. The University is also an accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Music. Our expert faculty—accomplished musicians devoted to developing your talent—will provide one-on-one guidance. Whether you pursue performance, composition, education, scholarship or plan to blend your love of music with other interests, our programs will help you reach your goals.

All applicants must complete an Acceptd audition form, through which pre-screening and auditions will be scheduled.

Music is a dual admission program. Students must be admitted to both Missouri State University and the Department of Music in order to major or minor in Music. The minor in composition does not require an audition.

All students accepted into the undergraduate Music major or minor are required to pass a Theory Entrance Exam before enrolling in MUS 103 (Theory and Musicianship I). Auditioning students are encouraged to attempt the exam before their scheduled audition date. The Theory Entrance Exam is not needed for high school students with AP theory credits or transfer students with previous college-level theory credits that have transferred or will transfer in to Missouri State. Please let the audition coordinator know if you have AP theory credits or are transferring college theory credits.

The Theory Entrance Exam is being offered online. Details on accessing the exam will be provided with your audition packet from the Music department. Please visit our Theory website for more information and suggestions on materials to help you prepare for this placement exam.

From this audition, you will also be considered for any available Music area scholarships. Please note, a successful audition does not guarantee a scholarship offer.
