FULL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM IN SANTA BARBARA, CA
The Music Academy of the West is among the world's preeminent summer programs for extraordinary classically-trained musicians ages 18-34. At its ocean-side campus in Santa Barbara, the Academy provides the opportunity for advanced study and frequent performance under the guidance of internationally renowned teaching artists, guest conductors, and soloists. All just steps from the beach.

140 musicians are selected from a worldwide applicant pool and earn a coveted position as a fellow in our eight-week Summer School & Festival. All enrolled musicians attend on full-scholarship, including free tuition, accommodations, and meals.

The Music Academy Summer Festival is a highlight of the Southern California arts community, presenting 200 public events over eight weeks, and attended by over 40,000 audience members.

Each fellow receives a wealth of opportunities for world class training and individual instruction, collaborative music-making, abundant performances in front of sold-out audiences, the chance to compete for a cash prize and recital tour, and personal growth through wellness and outreach programs. Fellows are also mentored in developing innovative projects with the opportunity to win cash awards.

  • Duo Competition for Instrumental and Collaborative Piano Fellows, including $5,000 cash prize and recital for winning duo
  • Solo Piano Competition, including $5,000 cash prize and recital for winner
  • Wellness Program including exercise, yoga, counseling, and physical therapy resources

APPLICATION DEADLINE & FEE:

AUDITION PROCESS:

Audition processes for instrumental, solo piano, and collaborative piano programs will be announced by November 2021.

VOCAL INSTITUTE: 2022 NEW AUDITION PROCESS! PRE-SCREENING ROUND FOLLOWED BY INVITATION-ONLY VIRTUAL LIVE ROUND


All Voice and Vocal Piano applicants must first submit a Pre-Screening Round Audition Video Recording as part of the online application, Applicants will be notified by email by mid-November if they have advanced to the Virtual Live Audition Round and will be emailed an audition appointment at that time.

*Due to the ongoing uncertainty and complications surrounding the Delta variant of Covid-19, there will be no in-person live auditions for 2022. A virtual live final round will occur instead.

*International Voice and Vocal Piano Program Applicants Exempt from Virtual Live Auditions: those residing overseas (outside North America) may request to submit a video upload audition in lieu of a live virtual audition, if advanced to the Virtual Live Round.
