Support SSI and National Philharmonic's Learning and Engagement programs! 

National Philharmonic created its wildly successful Summer String Institutes (SSI) in 1998 to nurture the skills and talents of young musicians and encourage their participation in classical music now and throughout their lives. Centered around community, impact, and innovation, SSI will be back with two sessions from July 22-26 and July 29-August 2. SSI 2024 will include creative and engaging performance opportunities, classes on movement, mindfulness, community building, music technology, and more for students between 4-12th grades! Application & Fees

Deposit: 
$250, paid upon submission of application. Used toward final tuition balance.
Application Fee: $100, none-refundable, paid upon submission of application

Attending 1 Session
Tuition
: $750
Special offer: $650 per student for students with siblings attending or multiple week attendance

Attending Multiple Sessions
2 sessions: $650 per session, $1300 total. After deposit paid, $1050 balance remaining.

*Videos uploaded must include excerpts for all sessions a students wishes to attend.

Application Information

Please submit 1 video as part of the application process.  You do not have to play all the excerpts in one take, but all excerpts must be combined into a single video clip. Click on the "Resources" tab at the top of this page to download excerpts. Each session has 3 options for scales and excerpts you can choose from: Amati, Guarneri, or Stradivari. Please review each of these categories and select the level you feel best fits your playing and experience. Please note, both excerpts and scales have to be from the same category. 

You will also need a recommendation from your teacher. The form is on the application. You may start the application, save, and submit the video anytime before the May 1, 2024 deadline.  No applications will be accepted after May 1, 2024. 
Interns
Up to 40 hours of Student Service Learning Hours may be earned by Interning. Interns may be asked to help with clerical work, assist teachers, assist in rehearsals, and play in orchestra. Students must attend at least one session as a participant, in order to intern. To apply for internship, please fill out the form titled "Intern Registration", under the resources tab. Refund Policy
There is a $100.00 non refundable application fee.
A $250.00 deposit is due upon application to SSI.  The deposit will be refunded if student is NOT accepted to SSI.
If the student is accepted, the deposit is non-refundable.
Students will be notified of acceptance within two week of submitting their application.
The tuition balance is due by May 15th, 2024.
There are NO REFUNDS for any reason after May 15th, 2024.

*All Sessions will take place at River Road Unitarian Universalist Congregation (6301 River Road Bethesda, MD 20817). There is ample parking.
