NEMC Core Program

Summers at New England Music Camp are magical! Each session, 150 students from all across the country join together on the beautiful 40-acre lakefront campus for an enriching experience of music, fun, and friendship.

The program at Core NEMC is designed to give students ages 12-18 the opportunity to immerse themselves in music while still enjoying the fun and friendship of summer.

Chamber Music Intensive
NEMC’s Chamber Music Intensive is a two-week summer workshop for advanced high school musicians and rising college freshmen and sophomores. At CMI, we immerse in the world of chamber music through musical collaboration and community-building. Participants focus on two to three pieces in the chamber music literature working alongside our dynamic faculty with a focus on instrumental skill development, score reading, the art of active listening, navigating group dynamics, and the development of leadership skills. Students will also collaborate with the Composition Intensive, allowing them to share in the creative process of developing musical ideas.

Vision: To provide an intense collaborative learning environment for highly motivated young musicians

Composition Intensive
The Composition Intensive invites composers ages 14-20 for a Festival experience where they develop their creative practice while also building their portfolio under the guidance of two very active composers in the field.  Participants will learn specifically about idiomatic writing while building relationships with the musicians on-site for the Chamber Music Intensive.  Composers will receive a recording of at least two of their pieces, and benefit from activating the real-world skills they will need to share and grow their music in the future.

Jazz Intensive

The Jazz Intensive at NEMC is a two-week immersion program into the world of both traditional and contemporary jazz for High School Students, ages 14-18. From jazz theory and small ensemble work to the traditional big band sounds, this program is for students looking to advance their education in Jazz and will be limited to 15-20 advanced students. The daily schedule includes a variety of classes, private lessons specifically for jazz, and rehearsals within the multiple groups.

Musical Theatre Intensive
Open to high school students entering their sophomore, junior, or senior year, this two-week program is designed to prepare participants for applicant auditions into university musical theatre programs. Campers will follow a rigorous course schedule of song and monologue coaching, dance, and acting. Additionally, students entering their senior year will have the option to film their required audition media on-site, meeting all requirements of the Musical Theater Common Prescreen (MTCP). The program will culminate in a showcase of work for parents and friends.

Prelude
NEMC Prelude Camp is a two-week camp that welcomes upper elementary and middle school string, woodwind, brass, and percussion players to an orchestra & band ensemble experience. Specifically designed for ages 9-13, this camp will bring fun and excitement to playing in a group! Each morning, campers will rehearse in orchestra & band ensembles, as well as participate in small group lessons, ear training sessions, and alternative music classes to enhance their playing skills. In the afternoons and evenings, campers will participate in traditional recreational activities to enjoy the lake-front campus of NEMC. The session culminates with a final concert performance at the Bowl in the Pines.
