TAKE THE NEXT BIG STEP FOR YOUR FUTURE!

The National Repertory Orchestra remains committed to providing full scholarships for all musician fellows to attend the Summer Music Festival in Breckenridge, including housing and a food stipend, all valued at nearly $10,000. Here is the breakdown.

  • Summer Music Festival Intensive - $7500
  • Housing - $1500 with a FREE parking space for those who choose to drive.
  • Food Stipend - $600, issued at $75 per week.
  • Free, weekly Tuesday night dinners
  • Free transportation to the Denver International Airport on arrival and departure days.
  • Each musician will receive a travel stipend of up to $170 to offset travel expenses to and from Breckenridge.  This fund is made possible by the generous support of Bonnie Kirschenbaum.
  • Each musician bringing a large instrument to the summer music festival (defined as cello, bass, harp and tuba), will be given an additional travel stipend of up to $320 for transport of their instrument to and from Breckenridge.  This fund is made possible by the generous support of Bonnie Kirschenbaum.

Are you ready to launch your music career? Breckenridge's high-altitude National Repertory Orchestra (NRO) experience serves as the catapult for young professional musicians in the world of orchestra and the Arts.

Based in the beautiful and historic mountain town of Breckenridge, CO, the NRO is a preeminent intensive summer music festival developing diverse, thoughtful, and socially conscious musicians through experiential learning.  We inspire young professional musicians to be great leaders in their communities while Changing Lives Through Music!

Under the baton of Music Director Michael Stern, musicians will perform nearly 20 full orchestra programs and, additionally, have solo opportunities. Musicians will also create their own interactive chamber music program as part of the NRO’s Community Engagement initiative.

Application Fees and Deadlines
Audition Open October 16, 2024
$40: October 16 through November 22, 2023
$65: November 23 through December 22, 2023
$85: December 23, 2023 through January 22, 2024
$125: January 23 through January 26, 2024

Applicants will be notified of their acceptance status in February 2024. 

The NRO will NOT host live or in-person auditions and only accepts video submissions.

Eligibility
All applicants must be 18 through 29 years of age and will have completed at least one year of college, university, or conservatory by June 16, 2024.

International Students
International students must have a current visa and be eligible for OPT or CPT to participate in the NRO.

Auditions will be video only and open in October 2023 for the NRO Summer Music Festival!

Submitting your audition video is as easy as using your phone camera or computer! Just follow the steps below. 

Video Audition Rules

  • Audio effects are not permitted.
  • Recordings that are altered or have been edited will not be considered for acceptance.
  • Incomplete or late submissions will not be accepted.
  • ONLY ONE submission is allowed.

Video Audition Requirements

  • Announce your first and last name at the beginning of the video.
  • Record your video submission in the order listed.
  • The recording MUST be completed in one continuous take.
  • Stopping and starting between segments is not permitted.

Video Audition Tips

  • Use the most updated versions of internet browsers for the best video upload speed.
  • Dress comfortably but professionally.
  • Watch and listen to your video before submission, checking for audio levels, and the video's visual presentation overall. 
  • Plan ahead.  Late submissions will not be accepted!
