We’re thrilled that you’re interested in The University of Oklahoma’s Weitzenhoffer School of Musical Theatre! We offer conservatory-style musical theatre training, professional faculty, inspiring guest artists, world-class performance facilities, and a long history of working, successful alumni. We are a School of Musical Theatre (not just a department). In fact, we’re the only one in the nation. We are focused on one thing: providing exceptional students with the tools for success both on stage & off. We recruit incredibly talented theatre artists from across the nation for each Freshman class.
Musical Theatre majors at The University of Oklahoma are lucky because they work with extraordinary faculty that connect them to the highest levels of the industry. Our instructors have worked in all areas of stage performance including Broadway, Radio City Music Hall, National Tours, International tours and some of the best regional theaters in the country; as well as established careers in the Film, TV, Concert and Dance worlds. We know what it takes to pursue professional performance careers because we’ve done it.
What makes the OUMT education unique is that we’re a small program – capped at 50 students total with a full-time faculty-to-student ratio of 1 to 5. This advantage gives us the time to develop each students’ unique talents and capabilities. We value and emphasize diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in the arts. Through our mindful programming and recruitment, we strive to make Weitzenhoffer School of Musical Theatre an inviting and safe environment for all students.
Another advantage at OU Musical Theatre lies in the combination of our mentoring, multiple performance opportunities, master classes, professional connections, and options to study abroad, all nestled within a vibrant campus community. OUMT students get the “full college experience” complete with Division 1 football games, a thriving college community, and a wide array of educational options for minors and additional areas of study, all within a major Research I University setting. That’s a hard combination to beat – and that’s what makes us original.
