Patel Conservatory, located in Downtown Tampa as part of the David A. Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Arts, provides the finest performing arts training in an inspirational setting by giving students the tools to: dream, reach, discover and create the performing arts; integrate them into everyday life; and contribute to the community.

The Straz Center is the sixth largest performing arts center in the nation and one of the only performing arts centers with an on-site, accredited, performing arts conservatory. Auditioned pre-professional training is offered throughout the summer and school year to students in grades 7-college in theater, music, and
dance. Dance students, please apply through Next Generation Ballet's Acceptd site. Broadway intensive students may submit for all summer productions through this site, or may apply through Showstoppers Broadway Intensive Acceptd if they'd only like to be considered for the Broadway Intensive.


Patel Conservatory Theater production intensives provide focused production-based training in musical theater for accepted students. Acceptance is based on auditions, which are selective. Students experience a professionally produced production experience and gain understanding of best practices in the performing arts.

Ovation! Performance Group
Ages 13-18
Classes Dates: September 1, 2022-May 11, 2023 (TH) 4:30-6pm
Tuition: $670

Auditioned students develop musical theater performance rep in this weekly advanced musical theater program. Ovation! members will have the opportunity to perform their rehearsed material throughout the year at various events, acting as performing arts ambassadors of the Straz Center, and during a culminating spring showcase for families.

Head Over Heels
Ages 13-18
Audition Date: Tuesday, August 23, 5pm-7pm
Rehearsals Begin: August 31, 2022; (M,W,F) 6-8:30pm; 1 Saturday (October 8, 9am-4pm)
Performances: Thursday, October 13-Sunday, October 16
Tuition: Patel Student- $360, Non-Patel Student- $795

Advanced-level musical theater students ages 13-18 bring the royal characters of Arcadia to life in this laugh-out-loud love story set to the music of the iconic 1980’s rock band The Go-Go’s. This exuberant celebration of self-discovery love will allow students to use their character development and vocal performance skills to save a beloved kingdom from extinction.

Santa's Zombie Apocalypse
Ages 10-18
Audition Date: Tuesday, October 4, 6pm-8pm
Rehearsals Begin: October 19, 2022; (M,W,F) 6-8:30pm
Performances: Thursday, December 1- Saturday, December 3
Tuition: Patel Student- $260, Non-Patel Student- $710

Students ages 10-18 hone their character development, physical storytelling and stage makeup skills as they bring this epic, action-filled holiday play to the stage. Saving the day is not as easy as it sounds as the reindeer battle zombies to rescue Santa and his stranded elves.

The Sound of Music, Youth Edition
Ages 8-16
Audition Date: Monday, December 12, 7pm-9pm
Rehearsals Begin: January 11; (M,W,F) 6-8:30pm; 1 Saturday (February 18, 9am-4pm)
Performances: Thursday, February 23 - Sunday, February 26
Tuition: Patel Student- $360, Non-Patel Student- $795

An ensemble of students ages 8-16 bring this golden-age musical to life on the TECO stage. Students will hone their song interpretation and acting technique as they tell the story of Maria, a young governess who brings joy and music back into the Von Trapp family. The cast will be students will be enchanted by the timeless story and the dazzling score by Rodgers and Hammerstein.

Miss Nelson Is Missing
Ages 7-10
Audition Date: Saturday, February 11, 12pm-2pm
Rehearsals Begin: March 6, 2023; (M,W,F) 6-8pm; 1 Saturday (April 8, 9am-4pm)
Performances: Thursday, March 13 - Saturday March 15
Tuition: Patel Student- $360, Non-Patel Student- $795

Students ages 7-10 will enjoy playing spitball-throwing, uncontrollable children in this Theatre for Young Audiences edition, based on the quirky book. The students of Room 207 are in for a surprise when Miss Nelson turns up missing and is replaced by Viola Swamp, a scary substitute teacher. Focus is placed on character development and age-appropriate voice work.
