The Powerhouse Theater Training Program will resume in 2022!
After a two year hiatus, the Powerhouse Theater Training Program will return to the Vassar College campus June 23 - July 31, 2022.
The Powerhouse Theater Training Program asks participants to engage with theater and theater makers in new and meaningful ways by living, breathing, and creating work with peers and professionals alike. Each participant will gain valuable insights and practical tools to take with them as they pursue a life in the theater. Students in the Training Program apply for a discipline (acting, directing, or playwriting) and then work alongside some of the country’s leading and emerging theater practitioners for five weeks, observing and participating in the process through which theater is made.
A Powerhouse day includes morning and early afternoon classes. The core classes for all disciplines are acting, movement, and Soundpainting. Powerhouse afternoons and evenings consist of rehearsals, masterclasses, performances, crew calls, and much more. (https://powerhouse.vassar.edu/apprentices/classes/)
Everyone who is part of the theater community is here to do “the work,” and that is what everyone talks about during meals and late into the night. As one student said, “You can always sleep later.”
