2021 Powerhouse Theater Training Program
Due to the ongoing uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are still evaluating the safest and most impactful way to move forward with the 2021 Powerhouse Theater Training Program. At this time, we are delaying the onset of the application process.
Actors, writers and directors interested in participating in the program, please check back regularly for updates on season dates and application deadlines.
The Powerhouse Theater Training Program asks participants to engage with theater and theater makers in new and meaningful ways by living, breathing, and creating work with peers and professionals alike. Each participant will gain valuable insights and practical tools to take with them as they pursue a life in the theater. Students in the Training Program apply for a discipline (acting, directing, or playwriting) and then work alongside some of the country’s leading and emerging theater practitioners for five weeks, observing and participating in the process through which theater is made. The Powerhouse Theater Training Program is the result of a unique collaboration between Vassar College and New York Stage and Film.
A Powerhouse day includes morning and early afternoon classes. The core classes for all disciplines are acting, movement, and Soundpainting. Powerhouse afternoons and evenings consist of rehearsals, masterclasses, performances, crew calls, and much more. (https://powerhouse.vassar.edu/apprentices/classes/)
Everyone who is part of the theater community is here to do “the work,” and that is what everyone talks about during meals and late into the night. As one student said, “You can always sleep later.”
