HISTORY

Rogue Valley Symphony (RVS) was founded in 1967 by Dr. Frederick Palmer, launching its first concert with 55 musicians and a $4,500 budget. Initially performing four concerts per season across Ashland, Medford, and Grants Pass, the orchestra expanded under Maestro Arthur Shaw in 1987 to include a five-concert series, holiday performances, and its first educational outreach. Since 2010, RVS has doubled its budget and grown to six Masterworks concerts. We are proud to have launched multiple education programs including Link-Up, Classical Coaches, and Musical Mentors. RVS has earned national recognition for innovation and resilience.

LOCATION

Located in beautiful Southern Oregon, just 4.5 hours south of Portland and 6.5 hours north of San Francisco. RVS performs each Masterworks Series concert three times, typically in Ashland, Medford, and Grants Pass. HOW TO APPLY

TRAVEL & LODGING

Traveling musicians will be accommodated as needed with local orchestra members, staff, or board members. Travel reimbursement is provided to musicians traveling from outside the area, based on the distance from their home address to our rehearsal space at Southern Oregon University.

Reimbursement schedule (paid once per concert set):

• Ashland, Talent, Medford, Central Point, White City and areas 20 or fewer miles are area based.
• From Rogue River, Grants Pass and areas 20 to 50 miles from Ashland $ 90.00
• From Klamath Falls, Roseburg and areas 50 to 150 miles from Ashland  $165.00
• From Eugene, Springfield and areas 150 to 225 miles from Ashland  $190.00
• From Salem, Portland, and areas 225 to 300 miles from Ashland  $225.00
• From San Francisco and areas more than 300 miles from Ashland $275.00

Please record all excerpts in a single take to closely simulate a live audition. Incomplete or edited submissions will not be accepted.
