Scotia Festival of Music's Young Artist Program has been proud to inspire future generations of classical musicians since 1980.

During this immersive and intensive two-week-long summer music program, Young Artists gain hands-on experience in the art of music-making with some of the industry’s premier musicians.

As an integral component of our renowned chamber music festival, Young Artists will be able to work alongside some of the world's greatest classical musicians, in mainstage performances, masterclasses, workshops, coachings, outreach concerts, an orchestral Gala concert, and more. Young Artists receive complimentary tickets to all evening Highlight Concerts, to witness the incredible musicianship of our visiting Guest Artists.

Our 2024 program will run from May 25-June 9.

The Young Artist Program is intended for musicians at the undergraduate level and above, but there is no hard lower or upper age limit, if musicians demonstrate exceptional ability and are able to meet the demands of the program.

Applicants must provide:

  • Audio or video recordings of two contrasting pieces/movements, recorded within the last two years.
  • A CV.
  • A photo or headshot (to be displayed in program guides upon acceptance).
  • If applying for a scholarship, a letter (500 words or less) demonstrating financial need.
In addition, pianists who are accepted into the program will then be asked to submit a recording of an assigned quick study piece to aid in determining ensemble placement - this is not required at the time of application.

All applications must be received via the Acceptd platform by February 15, 2024.

All applicants must pay the non-refundable $40 USD application fee at the time of their application, unless they successfully apply for a fee waiver from Acceptd.

Applicants will be notified by March 1 of application and scholarship results. Successful applicants will have until April 1 to confirm their acceptance to attend the program. Upon confirmation of acceptance, 50% of the tuition fee must be paid to secure your spot. The other 50% must be paid by May 1.

  • $495 USD without billeting/housing
  • $600 USD including billeting/housing (only available on a limited, first-come first-serve basis - does not include meals)

Please note that tuition fees are now listed in US dollars due to a technical limitation with our application platform. The amounts should be roughly equivalent to the previously listed amounts in Canadian dollars.

Tuition fees are non-refundable unless the program is cancelled.

A limited number of full and half scholarships are awarded to applicants demonstrating the highest level of talent and greatest financial need. If you wish to be considered for a scholarship, please submit a letter (500 words or less) with your application explaining why you should be selected.
