The Conducting Department invites student soloists, actors, dancers, and ensembles of any combination of instruments, electronics, and/or voices to apply for Collage 2026.

Now in its 49th year, Collage is an exceptional opportunity for the School of Music, Theatre & Dance to showcase our students’ achievements and the breadth of its offerings as we celebrate 144 years of performance and scholarship. It is a whirlwind of excellence in the performing arts, with a diversity of styles, historical periods, and formats. We encourage applicants to propose distinctive submissions that demonstrate the highest level of artistry. We welcome standard repertoire across all disciplines as well as works that are unique, unusual, or rarely performed. We encourage submissions that showcase diversity in all its forms as well as interdisciplinary collaborations. Submissions must be no longer than 4 minutes in duration.

ELIGIBILITY

Eligibility is limited to students enrolled in the School of Music, Theatre & Dance during Winter Term 2026, and December 2025 graduates. The student eligibility requirement applies to any and all performers in any group performing in any capacity.

Tech Rehearsal
Thursday, January 15 from 4:30pm-7:00pm
Required attendee(s): Soloists (and accompanist) and all ensemble members who play, sing, speak, and/or move at the start and the end of the act**

Dress Rehearsal
Friday, January 16 from 6:30pm-11:00pm
Required attendee(s): Soloists (and accompanist), and all members of all groups

Performance
Saturday, January 17 at 8:00pm, 7:30pm call
Required attendee(s): Soloists (and accompanist), and all members of all groups

**All members of a small ensemble may be required to attend if the nature of the piece makes it necessary

Though all required participants are asked to hold the times listed above, each group will only be called for a portion of the times for each event. Exact times will be communicated to selected groups by Friday, December 12th.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

  1. DISCUSS this project with your principal teacher or group coach. The Conducting Department will accept NO application without approval from the applicant’s faculty sponsor.

  2. RECORD (audio or video suitable for uploading) your 90-second to 4-minute piece with exactly the same personnel who would be performing on Collage. Recording equipment may be borrowed through the SMTD website.

  3. COMPLETE the online submission form. The main contact person for the submission should complete the form. The following information and files will be needed to complete the form: 
    • Basic program information (title and movement information; composer, arranger, librettist, choreographer, etc.)
    • Sponsoring professor name and email
    • Names of all performers in the ensemble
    • Video or audio recording of the act
    • A marked score or outline of the performed work (anyone should be able to easily follow along while listening or watching the recording and/or performance)

When your application is submitted, an e-mail message will be sent to your faculty sponsor, requesting verification of their support.
