Stamford Symphony Instrumental Scholarship Competition
The Jeniam Foundation Scholarship 

1st Place: $10,000 ($2,500 annually)
2nd Place: $7,000 ($1,750 annually) 


The Stamford Symphony Instrumental Scholarship Competition is intended to recognize accomplished high school musicians in their senior year and to encourage them to continue studies on their instruments at accredited conservatories, colleges and universities.

submitted through the Acceptd website by November 25, 2013.

ELIGIBILITY

  • High school senior
  • Resident of, or attend, high school in Connecticut
  • Intention to apply as a music performance major to an accredited conservatory, college or university

COMPETITION INFORMATION AND PROCEDURES

Repertoire for Preliminary Audition Recording 

  • Your audition audio files should include two (2) selections from your Competition Repertoire list, not to exceed 15 minutes in duration.
  • Please submit your audition recording in the form of two (2) separate audio files.  
  • DO NOT place your name anywhere in the title or description of the files, nor in the recordings themselves.
  • PLEASE DO TITLE your files with your selections (Titles, Keys, Movements, Opus #)

The recordings are all the judges will know about you. Please do not submit performance recordings with orchestral accompaniment. 

Repertoire for Competition

Repertoire should include a minimum of three, contrasting, solo pieces, each from a different music period. Suggestions for solo pieces can include concertos, sonatas, and unaccompanied works for solo instruments.   

Semi-Finals/Finals Competition

If you are chosen to proceed to the Competition:
  • Be prepared to play all pieces on your Competition Repertoire list.
  • Final Competition Repertoire will be selected by the judges from your list.
  • Provide a score copy for any piece written after 1950.
  • You are responsible for your own travel and lodging.
  • You are responsible for arranging an accompanist.

Judges
A panel of distinguished musicians will adjudicate, and their decisions will be final.  First and/or Second Place prizes will be awarded at the sole discretion of the judges.

Dress
Be prepared to dress in appropriate concert attire.

Scholarship Maintenance Requirements

First Place: The Jeniam Foundation Scholarship - $10,000 ($2,500 annually)

  • Be enrolled as a performance major at an acceptable institution on the instrument with which they have competed   
  • Maintain a GPA of 3.0* 
  • Maintain an average in their major of 3.5* 
  • Remain clear of disciplinary action, both academic and civic  
  • Winner must fulfill a community service requirement (5 performances per year- at select venues e.g. senior residences, hospitals, schools)

Second Place: The Jeniam Foundation Scholarship - $7,000 ($1,750 annually)

  • Be enrolled as a performance major at an acceptable institution on the instrument with which they have competed   
  • Maintain a GPA of 3.0* 
  • Maintain an average in their major of 3.5* 
  • Remain clear of disciplinary action, both academic and civic 

*At the discretion of the donor, extraordinary circumstances will be considered for students who do not continue to meet the transcript criteria.
