Strathmore Youth Chorus (SYC) provides a pre-professional choral experience to students grades 2-12 from diverse backgrounds.

Founded by Artistic Director Emeritus Christopher G. Guerra and led by Artistic Director Michael Wu, five performing ensembles promote self-expression in singers, celebrate the diverse musical traditions of our residents, and engage talented youth in joy-filled and uplifting music-making. SCC also performs with professional orchestras, other choral groups, and featured artists in ensemble performances, allowing Strathmore to provide a living, breathing, singing presence in our community.

PURPOSE

Strathmore Youth Chorus (SYC) is a choral music education program for children grades 2 through 12. We teach music literacy and bel canto vocal production in an ensemble context while fostering authentic creative expression, challenging growth, bringing joy, and contributing to the well-being of our choristers. 

MISSION

As a Strathmore Education program, SYC provides children of all backgrounds excellence in choral artistry, promotes their self-expression, and offers them professional performance opportunities. Through our focus on training and education, SYC creates informed appreciation for and involvement in the arts, produces exemplary performing arts programs for diverse audiences, and develops choristers into “singing ambassadors.”
