Questions? music@fredonia.edu

We're glad you are thinking about auditioning for us!  Please read through this page so you will understand the process.

First, you need to audition only if your hoped-for music degree program requires one.  No audition is required for the Music Industry program.  If Musical Theatre is your dream, go here for audition information.  No audition is required for the master's degree programs in Music Therapy or Music Education (unless you want the "recital track").  For all other music programs (listed below), you do need to audition (there is an audition application fee). Please read on.

For a variety of reasons, we hope you will audition in person on our campus:
  • We will get to know you, and you will get to know us
  • You will interact with the studio professor of your instrument
  • There are no worries about recorded sound quality
  • You can tour our beautiful campus and Mason Hall
  • You will attend a performance in our awesome Rosch Recital Hall
  • Music faculty and students will tell you about degree programs, performing opportunities, campus life, etc.
If you do decide to audition in person, indicate your first and second choices of audition dates in this audition application.

We welcome recorded audition videos.
If this is your preference, then you will upload an audition video when you submit this application, so don't submit it before you have made your video.  If we give your video a favorable evaluation, a member of the Fredonia music faculty will then contact you to arrange a followup via Zoom.  The followup will consist of sight-reading, an aural skills test (pitch matching, rhythm matching, and sight singing), plus a chance to chat.  *Note: if you are a current Fredonia student, you may audition either in person or via video.

The in-person audition dates and deadlines are
  • November 4, 2023 -- only for applicants wanting to enroll in spring 2024 (deadline for in-person audition application is October 21)
  • January 27, 2024 (deadline for in-person audition application is January 13)
  • February 3, 2024 (deadline for in-person audition application is January 20)
  • February 10, 2024 (deadline for in-person audition application is January 27)
  • February 24, 2024 (deadline for in-person audition application is February 10)
  • March 23, 2024 (deadline for in-person audition application is March 9)
NOTE: for those who audition via recorded video, it is best to submit yours by November 4 (for spring enrollment) or March 23 (for fall enrollment).  However, we will accept applications until August 1, 2024.

To be considered for a Fall 2024 music scholarship, you must choose one of the January or February dates.

You must also apply for admission to the university.  It's best to do this before you submit the audition application.  If you have already done so, you do not need to do it again.
Begin this process with the "Start an Application" menu at left.  Make the 3 choices in top-to-bottom order: Degree Level, then Degree Specification, and then Select a Program.  If you do it in a different order, things might be confusing.
