Welcome to the Fredonia School of Music!
STATE UNIVERSITY OF NEW YORK

We will continue to accept audition applications in studios that are not yet full.
Questions? music@fredonia.edu

We're glad you are thinking about auditioning for us!  Please read through this page so you will understand the process.

First, you need to audition only if your hoped-for music degree program requires one.  No audition is required for the Music Industry program.  If Musical Theatre is your dream, go here for audition information.  No audition is required for the master's degree programs in Music Therapy or Music Education (unless you want the "recital track").  For all other music programs (listed below), you do need to audition.  Please read on.

For a variety of reasons, we hope you will audition in person on our campus:
  • We will get to know you, and you will get to know us;
  • You will interact with the studio professor of your instrument;
  • There are no worries about recorded sound quality;
  • You can tour our beautiful campus and Mason Hall;
  • You will attend a performance in our awesome Rosch Recital Hall
  • Music faculty and students will tell you about degree programs, performing opportunities, campus life, etc.
If you do decide to audition in person, indicate your first and second choices of audition dates in this audition application.

We welcome recorded audition videos.
If this is your preference, then you will upload an audition video when you submit this application, so don't submit it before you have made your video.  You will also select a follow-up date when a member of the Fredonia music faculty will connect with you via Zoom.  *Note: if you are a current Fredonia student, you may audition either in person or via video.

The audition dates (which are also follow-up dates) and deadlines are
  • November 5 -- only for applicants wanting to enroll in spring 2023 (deadline for audition application or video is October 22)
  • January 28 (deadline for audition application or video is January 14)
  • February 4 (deadline for audition application or video is January 21)
  • February 11 (deadline for audition application or video is January 28)
  • February 25 (deadline for audition application or video is February 11)
  • March 25 (deadline for audition application or video is March 11)
NOTE: we will continue to accept applications in available studios until August 1.

To be considered for a Fall 2023 music scholarship, you must choose one of the January or February dates.

You must also apply for admission to the university.  It's best to do this before you submit the audition application.  If you have already done so, you do not need to do it again.
Begin this process with the "Start an Application" menu at left.  Make the 3 choices in top-to-bottom order: Degree Level, then Degree Specification, and then Select a Program.  If you do it in a different order, things might be confusing.
