INTENSIVE PROGRAMS FOR Middle School Jazz Students OR High School Jazz Students

Two programs for students with classes in improvisation, theory and history, and sectionals, instrument-based masterclasses and ensemble rehearsals. Led by University of Houston faculty and top Houston-area jazz musicians and educators, the institutes culminates in a final concert on Friday, June 21, 7 p.m. in the Moores Opera House. 

Program requirements: 

  • 7th and 8th graders should apply to MIDDLE SCHOOL Jazz Institute
  • Students entering 9th grade - college freshmen should apply to HIGH SCHOOL Jazz Institute
  • Completed application with non-refundable $40 application fee (payable by credit card through Acceptd application portal) due Wednesday, May 1, 2024.


Fees (all fees are non-refundable)

  • Application fee: $40 (Due with completed application by May 1, 2024, payable by credit card only, through Acceptd. Checks or cash not accepted.)
  • Registration: Middle School: $400 (includes daily lunch M-F); High School $350 (includes lunch Friday ONLY). Due upon acceptance no later than May 31, payable by credit card through Acceptd. Limited scholarships are available. Contact Noe Marmolejo to inquire.

All activities take place at UH Moores School of Music

  • Orientation/Part Auditions: Sunday, June 16, 1 – 4 p.m.
  • Daily Schedule: Monday – Friday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. 
  • Final Institute Concert: Friday, June 21, 7 p.m., Moores Opera House
