Thank you for your interest in the Department of Theatre at the University of Alabama at Birmingham! We offer a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Musical Theatre, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre with concentrations in Performance, Design/Technology and General Studies, a minor and an honors program. Students interested in auditioning for the BFA Musical Theatre program, or BA Theatre Concentrations in Performance or Design/Technology are required to complete this online application and schedule an audition. If you elect to pursue the General Track BA, you are not required to audition for the department but we strongly encourage you to audition for department scholarships. For students interested in the Design/Technology Concentration or another non-performance related area of the discipline, the audition format is a presentation and interview. The BFA program requires a $30 application fee. The BA program does not require an application fee. All students who audition for the BFA Musical Theatre Program will be considered for the BA Performance Concentration, and all who audition or interview will also be considered for departmental scholarships.
To start the application process, select the program in the “Start an Application” drop-down menu. Please answer all of the required fields and be prepared to upload a theatre resume and headshot. All applicants will be required to include audition videos or digital portfolios. UAB participates in the Musical Theater Common Prescreen. Please find the information here. You will also be asked to choose a preferred audition date. The deadline for completing the application is two weeks prior to your preferred audition date, with a final deadline of January 25, 2024. Once you have completed the online application, you will be contacted by the Department of Theatre to confirm your audition or interview date and provide more information.
Please be advised that the UAB Department of Theatre is unable to make any offers before a student has been accepted by the university.
