The University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Music offers both the resources and academic prowess of a major research university with a small liberal arts college culture and faculty–to-student ratios. The UAB Department of Music is a vibrant community of performing artists, scholars, educators, and technologists working in the cultural heart of a major Southeastern city.
The department offers the Bachelor of Arts degree with concentrations in music technology, music education, and applied music, as well as a Master of Arts degree in Music Education. We collaborate with the Department of Theatre in their Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Musical Theatre.
The department is also home to a faculty of world-renown performers, scholars, and industry professionals. Students in the department study and perform in state-of-the-art facilities including the Hulsey Center and the Alys Stephens Center for the Performing Arts, with two recital halls, a 1,400 seat concert hall, proscenium and black-box theatres. Students also learn, compose, and record in a cutting-edge music technology lab and recording studio.
