Thank you for your interest in the Dance program at the USF School of Theatre & Dance!

DanceUSF

Listed as a top dance program in the country by danceus.org and College Magazine, DanceUSF offers a close-knit community of fellow artists and scholars. With about 90 majors, the DanceUSF Program is housed in its own Dance Center on the USF Tampa Campus. The B.F.A. in Dance Performance focuses on the professional development of dancers and choreographers. The B.A. in Dance Studies offers an individualized program for students who, in addition to their dance training, wish to explore the relationship between dance and another academic area.

Two highlights that set us apart are our study abroad and visiting artist programs. The Dance in Paris Summer and Semester programs are one-of-a-kind opportunities to interact with a world-class faculty of working creative artists, take a wide range of technique classes and workshops, see performances by international choreographers and dance companies, and experience the City of Lights from the point of view of a dancer. The Holloway Endowment in Dance and Theatre allows us to bring in guest artists in residence to teach masterclasses and set works on our students.  Artists like Robert Moses (Robert Moses’ Kin), Alonzo King (LINES Ballet), Bill T. Jones, Jennifer Archibald, Batsheva Dance Company, Maurice Causey, Doug Varone, and Trisha Brown regularly augment the full-time faculty roster as visiting artists.

All prospective Dance Majors must audition during the year prior to their first semester to be accepted into the Dance Program.  The faculty in the Dance Program place great value on each student’s individual potential in dance as well as in academic success. Acceptance as a USF Dance Major is contingent upon both the acceptance by the University of South Florida and by the Dance Department through the audition process.

The dance minor is open access and does not require an audition.  Minors may submit an audition for placement in Upper-Level technique courses
