Thank you for your interest in applying for residency time at Vineyard Arts Project (VAP)!
Applications for this year are due by March 1 (Tues, 3/1/2022)
Vineyard Arts Project is an incubator for the creation of new work in dance and theatre. An artist residency located on the beautiful island of Martha’s Vineyard, VAP provides visiting artists with the necessary time and rehearsal space, allowing them to focus solely on the development of their new work.

VAP’s artist-in-residence program is for established and emerging national and international performing artists who:

  • Are developing NEW work that is relevant to diverse audiences. (If you are submitting for a musical theatre project, all music must be original.)

  • Are exploring their interests and questions with thoughtful processes and can articulate a context for their work.

  • Are excited by the opportunity to share their work with a community of artists and who embrace dialogue with audiences as a meaningful part of their process.

  • If you are a solo artist, please note that our panelists will give preference to collaborating teams because of the value we place in bringing artists together for intensive work.

Projects will be chosen through an internal panel review.

Past VAP artists-in-residence include: CoLab Dance, Boston Dance Theater, Ars Nova, BalletCollective, The Creator’s of the Amazon Prime series Transparent, The Ashley Bouder Project, Cirio Collective, Emily Kikta & Peter Walker, The Public Theater, Gemma Bond, Mark Stuart Dance Theatre, Far From the Tree with Michael Greif, Pontus Lidberg Dance, No)one. Art House, The Black Iris Project, Joshua Beamish/MOVETHECOMPANY, Home Street Home, and many more.

Artists Receive:

  • Use of the VAP property for 7 days (3pm move-in – 12pm move-out). This includes bedrooms for your team with ensuite bathrooms, and access to the living/kitchen/dining space and studio. There are no pets and no smoking allowed on the property.

  • A combination of remote and in-house property and event support from VAP staff.

  • For selected projects, we will have a public presentation at the end of the residency, depending on safety allowances, this will be either an informal gathering or a virtual event where you talk about your project and share a short excerpt from your work-in-progress with members of the public.

  • Marketing outreach via digital marketing and social media on VAP’s sites and to our mailing list recipients for the “Meet the Residents” event.

  • We consider all applicants no matter what their living arrangements require (i.e. one individual has a child and a caregiver). If your application is selected, we will work with you to meet those needs.

There is a $15 application fee for each Acceptd application submitted due at the time of application.
