About The Virginia Winds Academy

Virginia Winds Academy, its staff, and its musicians exist to contribute to the vibrant musical education and performance community in the Northern Virginia region. The Academy’s ensembles represent the cooperative efforts of music educators in collegiate, secondary, and primary music education environments. The participating members also reflect the talent and collective musical prowess of the formidable private music instruction available in Northern Virginia. 

The academy consists of two performance ensembles, a high school division, Symphonic Winds, and a middle school division, the Junior Winds.

Important information for all applicants:
Auditions open for the 2024-25 audition registration on March 14, 2024 and close on June 15, 2024.

After June 14th, you must email and request permission to audition.  Once a instrument section is filled no more applications will be accepted for that instrument. If the deadline has passed, please reach out to auditions@vwa.band for information on section openings and opportunities. 

1. Application fee $25.00 (fee for returning VWA members will be waived) 
2. Deposit due on acceptance; $150 to insure position in an ensemble (will be applied towards total tuition)
3. Total Tuition for Senior Winds: $630 (if you apply after June 14th, a 10% increase is added or $690)
4. Total Tuition for Junior Winds: $600 (if you apply after June 14th, a 10% increase is added or $660)
   
   NOTE: The final tuition payment must be paid by the end of November or you will not be invited back for the second session in January.
   
   Audition Information 
   One video should be your etude, and one video should be your scales. 
   If you are auditioning on more than one instrument ( ie piccolo and flute) you only have to submit ONE application. Upload the piccolo and flute video as one video, and the scales, for each instrument, as a second video. 

PLEASE make sure the video recording is of you playing your scales and excerpts. Ask for tech support, but the recording should be you!
