Who We Are

At the University of Washington School of Music, we are dedicated to creating an environment of educational and artistic excellence in our faculty and students by cultivating creativity, academic discovery, and a wide range of diverse cultures. As a comprehensive School of Music established within one of the world’s finest public research universities, our School is deeply engaged in the creation, practice, scholarship, and pedagogy of music.

Application Information

The UW School of Music accepts new students each Fall.

Undergraduate students must have completed the application to the University of Washington prior to submitting their recorded audition. For more information including application deadlines, please visit the UW Admissions website. In order to assist undergraduate students in applying for college, the UW School of Music will cover the $35 Acceptd upload fee. 

Graduate applicants must have submitted their online application to University of Washington Graduate School prior to submitting their recorded audition (or for Composition applicants, before submitting their composition portfolio). For more information including application deadlines, please visit the Graduate Application page on the School of Music website. Please note: there is a $35 fee for graduate students to upload a video audition to this site.

Recorded Auditions: BA, BM, MM, DMA

Once you have completed your application, the next step is to complete an entrance audition. Live auditions will be held at the University of Washington Music Building on January 6th, January 20th, and February 3rd, 2024. More information on live auditions can be found on the Audition Dates page of the School of Music website.

While in-person auditions are highly encouraged, if you are unable to attend a live audition with School of Music faculty, you have the option to audition via video. 

Please note that the UW School of Music accepts video auditions only if you are unable to perform a live audition with faculty. Audio-only files will not be accepted for performance programs. If you choose this option, please follow the instructions on the left side of this page to create a profile and upload your recording.

The audition requirements for recorded auditions and live auditions are the same. For a list of suggested audition repertoire for your instrument, please visit the Audition Repertoire page online. Your chosen selections should fit within the listed criteria for your instrument and represent you and your abilities in the best possible light. If you have detailed questions about audition requirements for your instrument, please contact the primary instructor or Program Chair of your intended major.
