2024 ARIZONA THESPIANS SCHOLARSHIP AUDITION REGISTRATION INFORMATION
This year’s scholarship auditions will be performed live in-person for college/universities.Students will perform auditions live at the Hyatt Regency Downtown Phoenix on Friday November 22, 2024. There are no exceptions.
In order to be eligible to audition for audition based scholarships:
- You must attend a Scholarship Workshop to be eligible.
- Monday October 7th at 6pm: Technical Theatre Audition Info Google Meet-Led by Carina Stiles
- Tuesday October 8th at 6pm: Acting, Vocal & Vocal/Acting Audition Info Google Meet-Led by Carina Stiles
- You must register here on Acceptd and this must be done by Thursday October 10, 2024 at 5pm. (Essay scholarship entrants do not need to register on Acceptd).
- You must be a graduating high school student with a 3.0 GPA, un-weighted.
- Be an inducted Thespian at the time of auditions.
- Must intend to major in theatre.
- minors in theatre are not eligible
CHECKLIST FOR AUDITION
_____ PART 1: Completed Audition Registration Form for College auditions, either online or in person
_____ PART 2: Resume is completed through Acceptd.
_____ PART 3: Sponsor registered you for Scholarship Auditions under the Events tab in the Online Registration Portal system. Otherwise you will NOT be scheduled.
FAILURE TO COMPLETE EACH PART OF THE CHECKLIST BY THE DEADLINE OF OCTOBER 10, 2024 WILL RESULT IN INELIGIBILITY TO AUDITION. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS DEADLINE.

CAREFULLY**
The purpose of Scholarship Auditions at the Arizona Thespian Festival is to provide exposure to the conservatories, colleges and universities in attendance in person as well as online. The other opportunity that comes with auditioning at Festival is being in the running for various scholarships awarded by AZ Thespians.
You need to register here on Acceptd using the dropdown menu in the left margin. There is a $40.00 fee that will need to be paid online through Acceptd. They accept credit or debit cards. They are now taking submissions and will stop taking them at 5:00 pm Thursday OCTOBER 10, 2024
The Acceptd resume form is the ONLY form that will be given to the college representatives.
PART 1: SCHOLARSHIP/AUDITION WORKSHOP
The Scholarship workshop will be virtual via Google Meet. You need only attend one workshop. Students must complete one of the sessions listed below. Session dates and times are as follows:
October 7, 2024 at 5pm via Google Meet-Technical Theatre
October 8, 2024 at 5pm via Google Meet-Acting, Vocal, Vocal/Acting
PART 2: COMPLETE RESUME ONLINE
Go to getacceptd.com/arizonathespians, the world’s largest arts network, and complete your resume. You will need to create a login to do this, and then follow the instructions. Students must pay the $40.00 fee to Acceptd. They accept credit and debit cards. This is not paid through your school or AZ Thespians. Resumes must be submitted by Thursday OCTOBER 10, 2024 5:00PM. You will be expected to upload a picture along with the resume.
PART 3: SPONSOR HAS TO REGISTER YOU
Sponsor must register you for Scholarship Auditions under the Events tab in the Online Registration system. See your sponsor to make sure that you are signed up and ready to go. Please pay attention to deadlines. Help your sponsor out by gently reminding them.
AUDITION GUIDELINES
- Must be a graduating senior to audition.
- Must attend a College Scholarship Audition Workshop.
- Only three (3) Thespians per school are allowed to audition.
- Download the PERFORMANCE STANDARDS POLICY FORM. Give it to your teacher and have them turn it in at the time of registration on THURSDAY OCTOBER 10, 2024
- Students may audition in ONLY ONE of the following areas:
A – Vocal: Prepare two contrasting 45 second Song Selections, OR a contrasting 45 second Vocal Selection and 45 second Monologue Selection. (Slate and transitions are included in your 2 min max audition time). You’ll be warned at both the 1 minute and 50 second mark and 1 minute and 55 second mark to bring your audition to an end. ACAPELLA auditions are NOT allowed. YOU MUST PERFORM SONGS IN ORIGINAL KEY. Time restrictions will be strictly followed. You will be stopped at 2 minutes!
B – Acting: Prepare two contrasting 45 second Monologue Selections. (Slate and transitions are included in your 2 min max audition time). You’ll be warned at both the 1 minute and 50 second mark and 1 minute and 55 second mark to bring your audition to an end. Time restrictions will be strictly followed. You will be stopped at 2 minutes!
C – Technical: Prepare a Three to Five-Minute Portfolio Presentation (Slate is included in your 5 min max audition time). You’ll be warned at both the 4 minute and 50 second mark and 4 minute and 55 second mark to bring your audition to an end. Time restrictions will be strictly followed. You will be stopped at 5 minutes!
D-Performer Slate: Name, Title of Pieces, Show Titles, Names of Playwrights and Composers
E-Technical Slate: Name, Technical Area of Presentation, Show Title
TECHNICAL: Pick examples of your technical work for your portfolio presentation in ONE technical theatre area lasting five minutes. (ie. costume construction, lighting design, stage management…) Choose what will sell you best. A table and an easel are provided. A Google Slide presentation of your designs is required for this event. Be ready with an explanation of your work, problem solving you encountered during the process, and/or any changes you would make if you were to do this over again.
ALL:
- NO TBA Selections are allowed. Students must have their selections listed in the online registration system, including play or song titles/authors.
- Your sponsor must certify that the information that you attended a College Audition Workshop, your accepted resume is true and s/he worked with you on your piece and/or presentation by registering you for Scholarship Auditions under the Events tab in the Online Registration system.
- Costumes, props, and special makeup are NOT allowed. One chair will be available. For technical auditions a table and an easel will be provided. There will be a projector in the room. If you select to use a digital portfolio, be aware that it can be shared both in-person and digitally for the schools watching online.
- Be punctual and dress professionally. Auditions begin shortly after registration on Friday. Meet the alumni (red shirts) in the South Ballroom Lobby of the Convention Center to walk over to the Hyatt for your audition. Do not miss your allocated time.
- Audition sessions are CLOSED to ALL spectators, including sponsors and parents.
SCHOLARSHIPS and CRITERIA OFFERED BY AZ THESPIANS:
Nine scholarships may be given out at the Arizona Thespian Festival by the State Thespian Board. All scholarships are provided as book scholarships. All scholarship applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA and be an inducted Thespian.
SUBMISSION/ESSAY SCHOLARSHIPS – Please see the individual application forms for more information. Students must be a current Senior and an inducted Thespian to be eligible for essay scholarships. Steve Halper Theatre Educator Scholarship $1500 (Available to any student intending to major in Theatre Education)
Theatre for Life Scholarship $1000.00 (Available to any student who will incorporate theatre arts in future jobs or community service positions)
Playwriting Scholarship $1500 (Awarded to a student playwright that creates a one act play between 15-30 minutes)
AUDITION SCHOLARSHIPS
Ellis Jordan Memorial Scholarship $1500 (Available to any student intending to major in theatre)
John Siler Memorial Scholarship $1500 (Available to any student intending to major in theatre)
AZ Thespian/EdTA Scholarship $1500 (Available to any student intending to major in theatre)
Amy Bennett Memorial Music Theatre Scholarship $1500 (Available to any student intending to major or minor in MUSICAL theatre)
Technical Theatre Scholarship $1500 (Available to any student intending to major in technical theatre or theatre production)
Ovation Scholarship $1500 (Available to any student intending to major in theatre)
CRITERIA: The Audition Scholarships are awarded using the following formula based on the information provided in the Audition Resume:
- Talent/Portfolio: 30%
- Resume: 20%
- Thespian/Troupe Involvement: 20%
- Grades (GPA, SAT, ACT) 20%
- Personal Interview 10%
